Setting Plate Life and Plate Run Length

Setting Plate Life and Plate Run Length

Plate Life

Within Press Pricing Components, there is an additional setting called Plate Life (Impressions).

This allows you to specify the number of impressions the plates on a press can be expected to produce before requiring replacement.

The impressions counted do not include setup and finishing spoils – it only counts production impressions.

When implementing Plate Life, you may want to consider creating a new configuration of the press which then offers you the ability to quote either with or without extra plate calculations.

To add a new press configuration click the ‘+’ next to Base Configuration…

And name the option…

Most of the settings are inherited from the Base Configuration, so you can simply save the new configuration and it will work to the same spec as the Base.

Next, export the pricing components and open the CSV in Excel.

Copy all rows that have nothing in Column CE (Press Option) to ensure you are copying the Base Configuration pricing components only.

On the new rows only, perform the following to enable the Plate Life configuration:

Col A (QCompotentsKey)

Delete the contents

Col BF (Plate Life (Impressions)

Enter the number of impressions before new plates are required

Col C (Press Option)

Enter the name of the Configuration created above

Format is “Press Name” – “Configuration Name”

e.g. GTO – Plate Life 25k

Save the CSV and import it back into the press costs.

You should see additional records for the new press option…

If the Plate Life threshold is met when quoting, the system calculates a new set of plates.

In this example, a new set of plates are brought onto the quote for every 25,000 impressions.

On a product that is printed black on one side only, 1 up it calculates 1 plate…

Increasing the quantity by one will bring thru the 2nd set of plates…
