Default Freight Mode to None on New Quotes

Default Freight Mode to None on New Quotes

Default Freight Mode to None on New Quotes

A guide for printIQ users

What is this feature?

When a quote is created in printIQ, whether it's entered manually or through the API or an integration, the system automatically selects a freight or delivery method using built-in fallback logic. It picks the cheapest, least restrictive valid option it can find, so a quote is never blocked by a missing or invalid freight selection.

The "Default the freight mode to none when creating a quote" setting overrides this behavior. When it's switched on, every new quote defaults its freight mode to None instead of auto-selecting a delivery method.

Why would I use it?

  • You do not want staff or customers to choose the delivery method themselves on every new quote.
  • You want to stop printIQ calling out to freight or carrier integrations for a rate lookup on every new quote.
  • You need freight pricing to wait until someone has confirmed the right delivery method for the job.
  • You want a safeguard against quotes going out with the wrong freight method auto-selected.

When does this apply?

This setting applies from the moment printIQ Support switches it on for your site. From that point, every new quote defaults to freight mode None, no matter how the quote is created: manual entry, the customer portal, or an API or integration call. There's no way to turn this on for a single quote, customer, or product. It's a global, site-wide change.

Which quotes are affected?

Once the setting is enabled, it affects:

  • Every quote created afterwards, regardless of the channel used to create it.
  • Quotes created manually by staff.
  • Quotes created through the customer portal.
  • Quotes created through the API or a connected integration.

It does not apply retroactively to quotes that already exist when the setting is switched on.

What happens after a quote is created with freight mode None?

  1. No delivery method is pre-selected: the quote sits with freight mode set to None until someone picks a method.
  2. Freight does not price automatically: printIQ suppresses rate-lookup calls to freight or carrier integrations, so no shipping cost is calculated until a method is chosen.
  3. Manual selection is required: staff, or customers if they have permission, must select a delivery method on any quote that needs shipping priced.

What about existing quoting workflows?

If your site currently relies on auto-selected freight for any workflow, check with printIQ Support before switching this setting on. Once it's enabled, those workflows will need a delivery method selected manually going forward, since printIQ will no longer choose one automatically.

Settings and configuration it works with

  • Freight by Cart vs. Freight by Product configuration.
  • Option to Calculate Shipping at a Later Point. This controls when shipping calculates, not whether a method defaults to None.
  • 3rd Party Shipping with Single Use Accounts.

Settings to know about

SettingWhat it does
Default the freight mode to none when creating a quoteOverrides the automatic freight fallback logic so every new quote defaults its freight mode to None instead of auto-selecting a delivery method.

Default the freight mode to none when creating a quote didn't seem to take effect. What should I check?

Was the setting actually switched on for your site?
This is an internal system setting, not a customer-facing admin toggle. Contact printIQ Support to confirm it's been turned on for your site.

Are you looking at a quote created before the setting was switched on?
The setting only changes the default for quotes created after it's enabled. Existing quotes keep whatever freight method they already had.

Can this be turned on for one customer, product, or API call only?
No. This is a global, site-wide setting. There's currently no way to scope it to a specific customer, product, or individual API call.

Still not seeing the expected behavior after checking the above?

Reach out to your system administrator or the printIQ support team for a closer look at the configuration.
