Stock Rates Quantity Breaks

Stock Rates Quantity Breaks

For some slower moving or specialty stocks, you may wish to vary the pricing dependant on the quantity of sheets on the quote.

With the Rate Information, you give your rate a name and then set the minimum and maximum sheets (or meters for roll stocks) quantity.

The Charge Unit allows you to specify if the stock is sold by the sheet or in multiples of. See the example below to for further details.

The Current Price is the cost for a ‘Unit’ of this stock.

When the Estimating engine is working out the most cost effective way to produce the job, it will look at the rate as set on the StockxStockSize screen as well as calculate using the rate defined with the quantity range applicable, if it exists.

Because the StockxStockSize screen does not have a quantity range it is compared to all Rates when they are defined. Because of this, setting up the rates means that the HIGHEST cost needs to be on the StockxStockSize screen.

On our text stock, I have set the price as

In the Rates Information I have added 3 quantity break entries…

The quantity breaks START at 1001 sheets.

For a section that requires 867 sheets, the quoting engine will look at the main price on the stock (0.075 / sheet or $75 / 1000) as well as the rate from the qualifying quantity break rates.

In this case there are no ‘Rates’ that apply.

However, if the section required 1202 sheets, IQ calculates 1202 * 0.075 = $90.15
It will then look at the qualifying rate and calculate the costs there.

As there is a Charge Unit of 50 sheets, the quantity is rounded up to 1250 or 25 ‘packs’ at $3.25 / pack of 50.
25 * 3.25 = $81.25.
As the $81.25 is less than $90.15, the lower rate is used in the quote.

Where a section requires more than 5001 sheets, the sheet cost is calculated at a rate of 5.5 cents ‘per sheet’ or $55 / 1000 (no ‘rounding up’ for pack size occurs).

Again, in the background, IQ has calculated BOTH the Rate price as well as the main definition price, but as the Rate price is cheaper it is used.

In essence, the price set on the Required Fields tab of the StockxStockSize screen needs to be the highest unit price

LARGE QUANTITIES RATES

If you are using the Rates Information tab to apply discounts for large quantities of stocks, you can simply add them into the Rates Information tab, as they will be calculated cheaper than the main price when the quote section quantity falls into the range.

Again, the main screen will still have the higher price, which will be used until the quantity is greater than the Min Qty of the Rate.

If you do not want to set an upper limit on your cheapest rate, leave blank.
