PRESSES - Setup and configure

If you are setting up a new press or need to alter the configuration on an existing press, this is managed
under
Admin > Configure Factory > Equipment > Presses.

This takes you to the 'Manage Presses' screen. Here you can see the list of all current presses, create new presses or edit existing presses:

CREATE A NEW PRESS

Click the '+' button to start the press creation process:

This screen is broken into the following sections:

DETAILS:
Here you enter the general details of the press such as the name, type of press and select the printing operation type such as Sheetwork, Work & Turn, etc and also link the plate operation to the press.
You can also select 'production planning' options such as the 'planning groups' and 'capacity plan as' (This lets you plan the SHTWK, W/Turn & W/Tumble press options under the one press).

ORDER:

The ‘Order’ field on the press definition will control the order the presses appear on the Capacity Planning board as well as the Capacity Planning filter press selector.

GRIPS:
Set the grip and lays:

SHEET SIZES:
Set the min and max width and depth sizes for stock the press can take:

CYLINDER:
Set the cylinder size for web or rotary presses:

OPTIONS:
A range of additional press options can be turned on/off here:

REFERENCES:
References for accounting purposes can be configured here:

Click 'Save' once configured.

The press will now appear on the list. You can add as many presses as you require.

You must add individual presses for each print method such as ‘Work&Turn’. See below example for the ‘SM74’ press. We have separate setups for standard Sheetwork, Work & Tumble and Work & Turn’.

Component pricing:

You now need to add additional details to the press. Click the ‘eyeglass’ dropdown button. The following list will show:

PRESS COSTS:

Press costs are allocated here for each possible process. This can be setup as basic as a single pricing structure:

Or as complex as a different structure based on 'processes' and 'sides':

There is a large range of options you can use to configure your pricing structure.

Component Selection options:

Pricing options:

As you add each one, it will appear as below .

PRESS SPOILS:
Here you can enter ‘sheet and percentage’ spoils relating to the press.

Each completed component will appear at the bottom of the screen as shown above.  Components can be edited at any time.

PRESS SPOILS - Side Specific

By default, printIQ uses the reverse side of the front spoils as spoils for the reverse side makeready.
The only time additional reverse side spoils are added is based on the % option.
Example of a plate spoil setup:
  1. First Plate x100 spoils
  2. Subsequent Plats x50 Spoils
  3. Plus 2% of work sheets (% additions also include finishing spoils in the calculation)

On a quote for 1000 press sheets with the process setup of:
Front: CMYK (4 plates) – Back: Blank (0 plates)
The spoils would total 270 sheets (100 first plate, 150 for three plates plus 2% of 1002 for an additional 20 sheets)

On a quote for 1000 press sheets with the process setup of:
Front: CMYK (4 plates) – Back: Black (1 plates)
The spoils would total 290 sheets (100 first plate, 150 for three plates plus 2% of 1000 for each side adds an additional 40 sheets)

On a quote for 1000 press sheets with the process setup of:
Front: CMYK (4 plates) – Back: CMYK (4 plates)
The spoils would total 290 sheets (100 first plate, 150 for three plates plus 2% of 1000 for each side an additional 40 sheets)

The same setup with the option ‘Side Specific’ checked ON with make the spoils for plates unique to each side (as opposed to using the reverse side of the front spoils):

For ‘Sheetwork’ presses when using the ‘side specific’ checkbox you must add a spoils component linked to the process of ‘Blank’
(or what name you use on your site for no printing) that has 0 spoils set.
Without doing this any spoils % will be added to the back*

The same quote recalculated is now:
On a quote for 1000 press sheets with the process setup of:
Front: CMYK (4 plates) – Back: Blank (0 plates)
The spoils would total 270 sheets (100 first plate, 150 for three plates plus 2% of 1000 for an additional 20 sheets)
As the back is ‘Blank’ and no plates are required the spoils stay the same as previous:

On a quote for 1000 press sheets with the process setup of:
Front: CMYK (4 plates) – Back: Black (1 plates)
The spoils would total 390 sheets (100 for first FRONT plate, 150 for three subsequent FRONT plates plus 100 for first REVERSE plate and 2% of 1000 for each side adds an additional 40 sheets)

On a quote for 1000 press sheets with the process setup of:
Front: CMYK (4 plates) – Back: CMYK (4 plates)
The spoils would total 540 sheets (100 for first FRONT plate, 150 for three subsequent FRONT plates plus 100 for first REVERSE plate, 150 for three subsequent REVERSE plates and 2% of 1000 for each side adds an additional 40 sheets)

PRESS SPEEDS:

After you have made the speed set; Configure Factory>Speed Sets, you are able to link the speed set to the press.

Multiple speed sets can be linked to the press based on a number of options such as stock, stock group, stock size, etc:

Once you have chosen the correct speed set click save and the component will show down the bottom.

GUILLOTINE SETTINGS:

Select one of the pre-defined ‘Guillotines’ entered from the drop down list and add the additional details such as ‘rates’ and ‘cut heights’.

Once complete, click ‘Save’.

The information will now appear at the bottom of the screen. This can be edited at any time.

The press is now setup. Stocks and Processes also need to be mapped in order to complete the press setup.

ADDING PRESS OPTIONS
We can also add additional option configurations to a press.
In the below example, this Sanjo rotary press has a number of different cylinders that can be used.
We first create the press's 'Base Configuration' as above. Then we use the '+' option to add additional configurations.

So we have made an option for an '8 inch cylinder'.
Everything is inherited from the base configuration except for the 'Cylinder' section where we enter the individual specifications related to the cylinder:
