Introduction
Freight calculations are based on rules relating to the ‘Origin’ and ‘Destination’ Post Codes.
When shipping internationally we need to be able to distinguish between post codes for different countries.
For the countries that have the same or similar Post (Zip) Codes (e.g., Europe)
the freight calculator needs to know what country the post code is for to prevent an incorrect freight rate being calculated.
To manage this, in the Freight Admin >> Postcode Sectors definitions, there is a Country selector.
By default, this will be set to ‘All Countries’, disabling this feature for that sector.
Sectors that are defined for a particular country will show the country in the sector selector.
If no country shows, that Sector entry is for ‘All Countries’ and appears at the top of the list.
Important Notes
If you are implementing Country Specific freight, we strongly recommend that all Delivery Sectors have countries set against them.
Linked Country to Postcodes
Country linked sectors are then listed alphabetically:
When adding or editing a sector,
the Country selector will list only the active countries in printIQ (as set under Admin >> Configure Factory >> Countries)
Add a name for the sector, select a country and click Save and Close.
The Country Name is prepended to the sector name.
Enter the Post Code details and click the Add to Post Code Sector button:
‘Origin’ sectors with the Country set will also be required.
The postcodes within the origin sectors will be the post codes being dispatched from for a given set of pricing rules.
In this example, dispatch can take place from the Factory Location with either the 4168 or the 4220 Postcode.
Freight pricing calculations would be the same when dispatched with these mappings.
If the Factories have separate rates or different ‘Delivery Days’, separate ‘Origin’ postcode sectors will need to be defined and rules set up accordingly.
After setting up your freight rules, you will have a number of entries for various countries.
In the example below, I have configured freight rules for the USA and UK:
New Zealand
New Zealand with specific rules for each ‘Origin’ postcode:
as well as Australian states:
Once configured, when an address is selected on a quote, the available freight options will change accordingly.
When an address uses one of the ‘Origin’ Postcodes, there is an ‘Other’ option to allow for Pickup:
Because it is the same postcode as one of the Origins, there is also a ‘Local’ delivery method with the Driver option available:
Under the ‘Australia’ delivery method, is the QLD freight option:
Changing the address to a Tasmanian address removes both the Local and Pickup options as well as pulling through the rates for Tasmania:
Returns
Changing the delivery address to a New Zealand address with the same Postcode as one of the Origin Postcodes:
IQ recognises that this is a New Zealand postcode, so only applies rules specifically depicting that post code in New Zealand.
Using CSV Import to Add Country Post Code Details and Freight Sessions
The setup of country and post code details is simplified with the use of the Export / Import functionality.
To add new Country specific post codes, those Countries themselves must be enabled in printIQ.
In the following example I will import freight rules for shipping to Albania.
Albania has been enabled in my list of active countries and I have added ‘Euroline’ as a freight supplier.
Currently there are no Freight Rates entries for Euroline:
And under Postcode Sectors, any entries for Albania should appear above Australia (as they list alphabetically):
Importing the following entries:
Will create 6 Postcode Sectors for Albania, covering off the post codes as entered (from 1000 through to 3299)
To prevent overwriting any existing rules, select ‘Keep Existing and Create New’
(If you are updating all freight rules, select ‘Delete and Replace All’)
And Import.
A Successfully Imported Your Shipping message should appear:
Searching for shipping company Euro Line returns the 6 new rule sets added for Albania:
And the 6 postcode sectors:
With the relevant Post Codes set against each sector:
When viewed through a quote, depending on the address selected, the options are limited by the country-linked post code.
