Freight Integrations – Enabling / Disabling Ratings

Freight Integrations – Enabling / Disabling Ratings

Introduction

When calculating freight on quotes, the quote engine makes calls to the integrated freight providers configured on the system to return freighting options for the user.
Every time the quote is opened, or a different quantity selected a rating is made to the integrated freight providers.

To reduce the number of rating calls made to your freight provider and to enable the ability to control the quoted freight price yourself,
the rating for integrated freight providers can be disabled.

The integrated freight entries that provide ratings have the ‘Enable Rating’ switch on the Freight Integration setup screen.
This is On (enabled) for normal quote freight pricing from the freight provider.

When this switch is disabled, all ratings for quotes will come from the internal Freight Rules defined in place of the freight suppliers’ rates.
When the order is produced and a delivery consignment created, the consignment price will come from the freight provider (and not the ‘quoted’ freight price)

How it Works

For this example, we’ll use FedEx, but as mentioned the principals are the same for any freight provider that provides quote ratings.
In the Freight Integration definition, there are the Delivery Types that come from that supplier:

When the rating is enabled (standard Freight Integration setup) the freight pricing options that are available will be returned from the provider,
along with any ‘local’ freight options from your internal freight setup:

When a freight option is selected and the  is clicked, a breakdown of the freight is shown.
If an integrated provider, with rating enabled has been selected, the breakdown simply states the price came from an external provider:

When the rating in the integration is disabled, the delivery types listed under that freight provider are made available as Delivery Types for the internal Manage Shipping rules.
These delivery types will have a ‘1’ appended to the end of them to differentiate them,
from the delivery types still used on the suppliers’ integration configuration to return the actual rate when the consignment is created:

When you have set up the delivery types you wish to price internally for this integrated freight provider, they will appear on the quotes.
Here we have set up 2 internal pricing rates to replace the Integrated Freight pricing from FedEx.
The other FedEx delivery Types from the integration are no longer used:

When viewed on the quote, the freight pricing appears as:
With rating enabled

Without rating enabled, only the internally defined rates are brought onto the quote canvas

Clicking  to see the breakdown of the freight pricing will show the internal calculations and will not state that it is provided by an external provider:

After accepting the quote and producing the job, when it comes to dispatching the product, the Freight Integration kicks in.
Because the Delivery Type of the selected dispatch is linked to the FedEx Integration, printIQ will use that delivery type to get the actual price for the consignment.

After accepting the quote, looking at the dispatch details on the job, the price shown still reflects the internal rate calculated ($52.15):

Clicking to edit it, the details are as they were on the quote:

When the consignment is created, printIQ goes out to the Integrated Freight Provider and gets the price for the delivery.
The price returned is the freight suppliers rated price and not the quoted freight price (though that is also shown on the modal):

When the job is invoiced however, the originally quoted freight cost ($52.15) is used:

Summary:

Enabling / Disabling ratings will not affect the freight providers charge.
Disabling the rating forces printIQ to use the internally defined rating.
Internally defined ratings offer some control over the delivery types offered as well as the price you wish to charge your customers.
