Fold Catalogues

Fold Catalogues

At the bottom of this article, you will find an attached pdf "Fold catalogue defined" with a more in-depth explanation of the Fold Catalogue fields.

Fold Catalogues

The folds catalogue is where you enter all the ‘folds’ you wish to offer and their pricing.

This is managed under Admin > Configure the Factory > General > Fold Catalogues.

Fields

The following box will appear (see attachment below for details about each field):

There are two ways you can enter the folding specifications depending on the level of detail you wish to go into.

If you want to be able to add more detailed information such as setup spoils and running spoils to the fold, there is an option at the bottom to link to an ‘Operation’. See the chapter on Job Operations to create the operation.
Once the operation is created you need to first link it to a ‘Folding’ operation category. See example below:
Create the finishing item and set the operation category to ‘Folding’:

This will allow you to link the job operation to the fold later in the process:

Once the ‘Finishing Operation’ is created, you can go into the ‘Fold’ and link the operation. When using this method set the pricing under the fold itself to ‘0’ and the pricing will now be pulled from the linked finishing operation:

Legacy setup OPTION 2:

This is a basic option. Here you can set the makeready time, sheets per hour and cost per hour.

Gutters, Outer Margins and Spine Width

These are set up to add the LIP & HEADS for a stitched signature or fold-lay; and for the GRIND & HEADS on the Perfect Bound Book.
The example below is a 16p signature (fold lay) with bleed, head trim and lip.
16p Signature with head trim and lip
The horizontal gutter corresponds to the total amount of LIP you want (where the grippers on a trim and stitch machine will grab the paper and pull it onto the stitching line.

The vertical gutter corresponds to the amount of HEAD TRIM you want (the area between the heads of the book, where you might want notches to alleviate crows feet or wrinkling).  Again, You can enter this as a fixed amount or you can enter .5inch and have it doubled by entering a quantity of two. IQ will display all of this on one side of the sheet in the diagram.

If you are wanting to add additional paper to the top (head) so you can put a perf wheel in to take out blousing you can add it to a vertical spine or just add it to the head trim.

When bleed is added to (either at the site level, the press level, or the override), it adds to the outsides of the form, not between individual pages. If you need to account for extra bleed, over and above the form,  add it to the outer margins. For example on a 16p form, bleed is required on every side of each 2 page spread. IQ adds it to the form, so you need to make an additional allowance for the bleed between the two 2-page forms. If you wanted .124 (3mm) page, you could add .25 (6mm) to the outer margin.
IF you have a standard bleed set across the board, you need to back it out of the outer margins and (but not the gutters).

SPINES

This is for spine WIDTH NOT for Spine GRIND - and is to automatically calculate the COVER spine width. You enter a 1 here to activate it, and then follow the instructions for the rest of the setup in the article located here: Spine Width Calculator

Spine Grind is calculated into the Gutters for the sections.
