It is common in packaging that a job is required to be imposed in a specific grain direction.
Manually Set Orientation at Quote Level
For this job we have a box with a flat size before assembly of 470mm x 200mm. We only carry a long grain version of the sheet size at 500x700mm.
On initial calculation of the quote, the job is imposed 3up on the sheet with the grain running along the short edge of the job:
For this job, we require the grain to run the long edge of the stock. Under the section ‘Advanced Production Options’, under the ‘Imposition Orientation’ selector, you can select various options:
Selecting ‘Width Along Grain’ (or ‘Landscape’) from the above will force the item to be imposed landscape on the sheet and therefore have the grain direction running along the sheet:
You could also have selected the ‘As Defined’ option. This forces the item to be imposed in the manner it was entered (WxD). In contrast, ‘As Defined – Rotated’ will impose it in the opposite direction as entered (DxW).
Overrides Using a Die/Knife (Imposition Requirements)
As an example, we have two of the same stock size. One is long grain and the other short grain:
On initial quote calculation, the product is quoted on the long grain stock 500x710:
As this quote is using a die library operation that uses ‘Imposition Requirements’ we can set the required stock grain direction against the die. You can set it to use only long, short or both grain directions:
When calculating the quote, the correct grain direction stock will be quoted on (710x500 Short Grain):
You can also specify a specific orientation against a die and that will be honoured when quoting:
