Consolidated Book Sections

Consolidated Book Sections

Book Quotes – Consolidate Sections by Fold Catalogue

When quoting books with high page counts, printIQ calculates as many sections as required to produce the number of pages specified.

This coupled with the fact that it is also calculating all possible production paths through production was impacting the performance of getting the product price.

There is a system setting that allows you to create ‘consolidated’ Sections, grouped by the fold catalogues, greatly speeding up the quote calculation process.

This will require access to the Multiple Folds tick box on the section.

When the setting is enabled, any products with multiple signatures using the same fold catalogue will be shown as one section with however many runs as required to produce the page count set.

This does not display ‘Runs’ on Digital presses

Custom Quoting

To allow your quote to cater for different page quantities you need to select all the folds it might need.

If they are not required to be used as part of the calculations, they are simply ignored.

Quote Templates can be set up that have the Fold Catalogues pre-selected on load.

For this to work correctly, the number of pages must be divisible by 4.

If there is a situation whereby there are 2 pages, a 4-page section is created for it.

In this example I have selected the 4pp Book Fold, the 8pp Book Fold and the 16pp Book Fold…

Entering 304 pages results in 19 runs of 16-page signatures only.

Both the 8pp Fold and the 4pp Fold selected in the Multiple Folds are ignored.

Expanding the Printing details and the 19 runs are shown there…

If a Digital Press is selected, the ‘Runs’ do not show…

If we add another 8 pages to the total pages (312) and re-calculate, 2 Print Sections are shown - the 304 page section and an additional 8-page section…

** When the number of pages is not divisible by 4, an extra 4-page section is added…

Calculating a 6-page book returns 2 4-page sections…

Simplified Quoting

To achieve the same performance in a simplified session, you will need to ensure that the Text section of the session includes the Fold Catalogues required.

It must also have the check box ‘Allow Multiple Folds’ ticked…

Setting up a Plus Cover Simplified Book session is done as follows.

(I have omitted the Process, Sizes, Section, Side and Job Operations as they will be unique.)

Ensure there are 2 sections – Cover and Text…

Select the Cover section as above.

In the Fold Categories select the 4pp Book

Next select the Text section and in the Fold Catalogue tab, select the folds to apply and ensure the ‘Allow Multiple Folds’ check box at the bottom is ticked.

Under the Section Options, set the page range you wish to offer on this product…

When a quote is generated, the user is prevented from inputting an invalid page quantity…

A 304pp book will generate 2 print sections – a 4pp Cover and a 304pp Text section, again with 19 runs…
